Donna had a great time with this Christmas book coming out on Halloween. I, however, have a hard time dealing with Christmas anything before Thanksgiving so I just recently read this novel.
This is the first book in her Heart of Texas series and it starts off the series well. Clayton East is a former SEAL who returns home to the ranch when his parents are in dire straits. That’s when he meet Abby Harper, a girl who has the weight of the world on her shoulders. She is also the sole caregiver to her two teenage brothers. The series of events that bring Abby and Clayton together could be described as fate or it could just be dumb luck.
Although, I liked this story it wasn’t as good as the other contemporary romances that Donna has written recently. I’m not sure what it was lacking it just wasn’t a “can’t put this down” type book for me. Which is unusual when it comes to Donna Grant’s books. However, don’t let me decide for you! It’s the perfect time of year to try on a new Christmas story and if you like it maybe you’ll pick up her other works.
I know I will read the next books in this series because I read everything she puts out. I just hope that the next one captures my interest more than this one.
