Ride Rough by Laura Kaye

Published: April 25, 2017

This author! Laura Kaye! I’m so happy that I discovered her. Each book just keeps getting better and better. I love this series so much and the fact that there are only 3 full novels and two novellas (one not yet released) in it is causing issues for me. Also fun fact, this book was released on my birthday. Wish I would have known about it then, I could have celebrated with an awesome new book.

Unlike the first book in this series Maverick and Alexa have a history together. Mav and Tyler (Alexa’s older brother) were best friends and Alexa and Mav started dating because of that. After Tyler’s death, Alexa pushed Maverick away and didn’t look back. Until she did. Five years later she is about to get married but her subconscious is trying to save her from an abuse relationship that will only get worse after they are married. As happens with many women in her situation, Alexa doesn’t see the abuse. Until things escalate and send her running to Maverick for help.

Maverick has never forgotten the woman who owned (still owns) his heart. When he suspects that she is being abused by her fiance, he is doing everything in his power to help her leave that situation. But her fiance is a powerful douche in their little town and has it out for the Raven Riders. Mav knows all to well that things will get worse before they get better but exactly how bad they will get is what is scaring him.

I couldn’t put this book down. But I was very anxious while reading it. I knew when something bad was going to happen or there was a situation that was built up to end up horribly and it did. But that’s what I like about this series. Laura isn’t afraid to show the bad sides life that most people choose to ignore. But you can’t ignore it if it is plain as day in the book you’re reading. Alexa had all of the emotions and thoughts of someone who was being mentally abused and the book leads the reader to see how she identifies what is happening to her and how she deals with it. As a romance novel, you’re generally guaranteed a HEA but for this one the story of how they came to it and the trials they will have to face afterwards are what made it must read.

You’re Awesome!
