I received an ARC of this awesome novel for an honest review. Am I anything but honest with y’all? That was rhetorical. Anyway, I love all books Laura Kaye and even though the first book of this series was good it didn’t rock me. This book however was better than the first one. I love books that have to do with sexy military men and the women who are strong enough to help them.
We met Billy Parrish in the first novel as one of the veterans in the Warrior Fight Club. We didn’t know his story then but with this book we get a greater look at what makes him tick. After being discharged, he had to figure out what to do with his life and so he decided to use his skills to be a private investigator. It wasn’t his life’s calling but it was something. When Billy was discharged it was for the burns that cover half of his body and he is also rocking a serious case of survivor’s guilt. He wants to find something that will make his life meaningful so that he can properly honor those that were killed but so far he has found nothing. That is until he meets Shayna and he is instantly attracted to her. He actually feels kind of bad about bitching to his buddies about her staying with him, when she is nothing like he assumed. However, he needs to stay away from her. Her oldest brother is his best friend and he will not hurt him by going after Shayna. Even if she could be the greatest thing to happen to him.
Shayna Curtis got a job with the Washington Gazette which is why she needed to move to DC. Her brother called in a favor with a buddy of his and so she is staying with Billy until she can find a place of her own. Only she has always had a crush on Billy and apparently that crush has not gone away like she thought. A teenager has permanently moved into her head whenever she is talking to him. And that is unacceptable. After a getting to know Billy and his friends and spending time with him she thinks there might actually be a really good future there between them until he pulls away. Which prompts her to start finding her own apartment which is harder than anyone would think in DC. There are some grade A wackadoodles out there. She finds a safe nice place to stay with a friend who just happens to be a guy and Billy freaks out. She doesn’t know what to do.
This book was a very quick read. I think I read it like a day and a half and that was with having to work. If you liked the first novel, you’ll love this one. We get to see more of the characters from the Warrior Fight Club and learn a bit more about their stories. Which will make the next one even better. Guys, I am so excited for Sean and Daniela’s book!! It’s going to be so hot! I love a good enemies to lovers story.
More on this novel first though. Shayna’s insults are pure gold! I love a sassy woman (probably because I am one) and the insults she gives to Billy and her brother are priceless. Like honestly, once you read this novel you will see what I’m talking about. Also, make sure to check out Laura Kaye’s page and my facebook page for a rafflecopter giveaway for the release of this novel. It should be going on for the next couple of days. So go try to win free things!!
—“‘Stop thinking about the stupid fuckstick, Shay,’ she whispered to herself. But, then, of course, She. Could. Only. Think. About. Billy’s. Fuck. Stick. For. Fuck’s. Sake.” -Shayna—
