This is my first novel by Avery Flynn and I gotta say that it won’t be my last. Now this is the second book in the Hartigan series but you really don’t need to read the first one to be totally in love with this one. The first one is Butterface and it has now made it to my TBR list. So why did I read this novel? Well, I received an ARC from the author for an honest review and as a plus-sized woman myself, I really enjoy when the heroine is one and the hero is just a smoke show because lets be honest we all have self esteem issues and because of those, seeing characters who look like you in books really helps the romantic mind in thinking that those great things could happen in real life. Not saying they won’t but I generally don’t have faith. Anyway on to the book.
Lucy Kavanagh is known as a ball buster in the PR world. She deals with crisis management of her clients and knows when not to baby them. However, she has had to deal with a lot of crap in her life because of her size. This is how she first interacts with Frankie. He “saves” her from the idiot at the diner that thought she needed to know what he thought about her eating a burger and fries. Then Frankie invites himself to her high school reunion that she was just going to skip. Lucy knows that she isn’t his type so when feelings start to develop for them she doesn’t know how to handle them. But if he is serious can she trust him with her heart? And self-esteem?
Frankie Hartigan is a 6′ 6″ ginger who is also a firefighter. He is used to standing out and to have women generally throw themselves at him. When he finds out that he isn’t the keeping type, he doesn’t know what to think about that. So he decides to take a vacation with Lucy whom he knows through his brother. He isn’t attracted to her in any way so he thinks that she is the perfect person to go on a trip with. But when feelings and attraction start to develop toward Lucy, he doesn’t really know what to do. He loves her snarky attitude and take no prisoners humor. He also has to convince her though that he is not a small man and he doesn’t need a waif of a woman.
This novel has a lot of snarky humor and of course it is hot. It has a lot of great scenes in it that make it a quick fun read for really anyone. The fact that it has two large people finding love is even better. But Frankie is the height of my perfect man so if someone could send him my way I would be forever grateful. There will be more to come from Avery Flynn on this blog for sure.
