Oh my god everyone!! This novel! You know that war is coming when you finish this novel. I mean we all knew it was coming at some point. This is another one of the Dragon Kings novellas and if you haven’t been reading them because you think they don’t matter to the story line they do. You need to read them and the Reapers in order to understand everything that is going on in this world.
Cináed is one of the lesser known Kings. We’ve seen him maybe once or twice and that is about it. Well, in this story we learn that his special ability is to learn anything quickly and retain that knowledge. So he teaches himself things to keep himself busy until he perfects them and then he moves on. In this instance he is trying to help Ryder find anything about The Others when he comes across a photo of a little girl. The look on her face is haunting and doesn’t let him go until he finds out as much as he can about her. Turns out she lives in the village and is using the last name Clacher. That could be a coincidence but he needs to know if she is part of that powerful line of druids if they have any chance at beating The Others.
Gemma has moved from place to place ever since her family disappeared. She doesn’t open up to people and she certainly doesn’t trust anyone. So what is it about Cináed that makes her want to trust him? He is asking questions about her past that she doesn’t have answers to and the fact that she might have magic is just out there enough to have a shred of truth to it. She knows that her family wouldn’t have left her so that means someone killed them and that same evil figure she saw that night was looking to finish her off too. Will she be able to face her fears and help Cináed or will it all just be too much for her?
The connection between these two is instant and unexpected but it is
Cináed’s need to find out what happened to Gemma that really pushes them together. The novel was such a quick read that I really couldn’t put it down. I got an ARC for it so I thankfully got to read it quickly before everyone else. It was amazing and awesome and I can’t wait for the next dragon king or reaper book. War has arrived and things are starting to heat up! 🐲🔥🔥🐉
