This second chance romance was so cute. I fell in love with Helena Hunting’s writing with the Pucked series and I’m happy to report that I’m still in love with it. It also really helps that this was another hockey book but the fact that it was a second chance romance was awesome. Those are some of my favorite romances because I just love seeing the couples get back together even after everything was fucked up.
Lilah’s life has not gone as planned not in any way. She isn’t married to her high school love and the man she was married to dropped a divorce on her out of the blue. Now the man who has become a father to her has a stroke and ends up in the hospital and she just doesn’t know how to handle it all anymore. Oh and said high school love is back in town and everything has gotten awkward again. When she first sees Ethan she doesn’t know how to handle being around him. He has been avoiding her since they broke up and she just doesn’t know why. Now he wants to reconnect and be friends again but she needs to protect herself. She doesn’t want to lose herself in him and a new relationship when she is just figuring everything out.
Ethan was traded from his Chicago team to Minnesota and he was not happy about it. But he realizes that he hasn’t been playing like the multi-million dollar player they all expect and this very well may be his last season. So returning home might be the ticket to fixing his career. What he didn’t expect was finding Lilah again and her being single. He knows that leaving her the way he did was wrong and that he hurt her but he needs her in his life more than he needs hockey. Now he just needs to convince her that he is worth the second shot.
This novel was so great. It was a quick read and one that I wasn’t really expecting to like. I also loved that they made reference to the Pucked crew because Ethan was traded from that team. All in all I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this novel and the heroine standing up for what she needed not giving in to the hero.
