This is the last legacy book and I’m so glad that Boone got one. I wasn’t sure if he would because he wasn’t mentioned much in the other books but the last BDB book set up for some real changes in his life. And this book really set up for the next book The Sinner. That one is going to be amazing. In this one our characters are trying to find a serial killer who is targeting females of the race. They don’t know who it could be and the most likely suspect is someone that they don’t want to consider. This book is a quick read and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.
Boone feels responsible for his father’s death but he warned him not to go and tried to stop him. He knew that telling the brotherhood could mean his death but that was a risk that he had to take. Now he is alone in a house that he doesn’t want with a butler who despises him and was probably his father’s lover. But the glymera doesn’t speak about such things. Boone needs to have something to do so he volunteers to help Butch find a murderer. What he doesn’t expect is the instant attraction he feels for the key witness. After his first interaction with Helaine he can’t get her out of his head. Not that he has tried too hard.
Helaine has been living in a fog since her sister’s death. She was her other half and without her she doesn’t know what to do with herself. So she has dedicated herself to finding the killer and taking him out. In the process she will protect other women who are preyed upon. When another woman ends up dead she calls it in to the Brotherhood and is now their key witness. She doesn’t want to tell them about her sister but there is something about Boone that she can’t seem to say “no” to. Or stop thinking about. She figures there is no way he could want her but when a tentative friendship and then relationship starts between them she wants it all.
I enjoyed this book though the ending did fall a bit flat because of course SPOILER…………… she’s pregnant when they were worrying about it. But other than that one part it set up really well for Sin’s book and it is going to be really rough read. I suspect there will be a lot of tears and just heart wrenching moments. Make sure you read this one first though because we learn a lot about Sin as the second part of the BDB story in these legacy books. Don’t miss out!
