This book is definitely a stand alone novella. It is technically book number 3.5 or 4 in the series but you don’t have to read it to enjoy this novella. I haven’t read the series and didn’t feel like I totally missed out on thing. Finally, I did receive an ARC from the wonderful people at Inkslinger PR and 1001 Dark Nights for this novella. Because I’m not invested in the series I probably wouldn’t have grabbed this novella on my own but now I wanna go out and read its series.
Beckham is a bartender who is trying to forget about his past. He isn’t proud of it and he just wants to be a better man. Which is why he knows that he should stay away from Meadow. He knows all about her past whereas she knows nothing about him. It isn’t fair and moreover he could put her into danger and that is unacceptable to him. However, he can’t seem to stay away from her like he needs to and one thing leads to another and kisses are involved. After dating for several months can he tell her about his past or should he just forget about it?
All Meadow wants is a nice quiet life. She doesn’t go out and she doesn’t draw attention to herself. Her past is the stuff of nightmares and she will do anything to keep it from coming back and taking over her present. So when she catches the eye of Beckham she doesn’t know what to do with the attraction. He looks exactly like the type of man she used to go after. And that man put her through hell in the motorcycle club but she realizes he isn’t the same man as the one behind bars. What would it hurt to give it a chance?
I realize that this is a novella and is supposed to be shorter but I wasn’t a fan of how the book glazed over the relationship building between the two. Like it gave us the timeline but I would have liked a recap of how far they had really come emotionally rather than just physically. Other than that I don’t have any real criticisms of this book. It was quick and wasn’t light and fluffy. It had a serious subject matter but kept it moving without getting bogged down. Definitely gonna check out the other books in the series now.
