I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. I knew it would be different from other J.R. Ward books but I was expecting more excitement and a faster pace because that is generally what I get from this author. I will say that this book was about a 3.5 for me. It was a very slow start and I wasn’t sure what the heck it had to do with the wolven except that the main characters were on a wolf preserve in New York. Like that was literally the only connection I had. I will say when we did finally get to the mentioning of the wolven outside of the vampire community the one who ended up being part of this species was unexpected. But that was about the only surprise I got. The book picked up towards the end so I will for sure be reading the next one because I think we’ll be seeing not only more of the wolven but more of Xhex and J.M. because she seems to be the key to it all. And where Xhex goes John Matthew goes. And then his boys follow him so it really is leading up to be something good. This book was just a slightly slow set up book. On the bright side the cliffhanger at the end wasn’t too bad so you won’t be lamenting the fact that the next book doesn’t come out until next summer too hard. I’m curious to see if this plays into the prison camp books at all and also if it will affect the BDB world in any way. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
