This book wasn’t like anything I was expecting. As many of you readers know, I don’t read much outside of romance and history with the occasional historical fiction thrown in. This book is a cozy mystery which is really off the beaten path for me. However, I loved Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe so I knew I had to read it. It turns out that I loved this book. It was enough of a page turner and had absolutely wonderful characters that I didn’t feel slogged down like I normally do with non-romances. And there is a romance in this book just not in the traditional romance novel sense. There is definitely something brewing between Jane and Conrad but she is convinced her family is curse so she is just happy with being his friend. I don’t imagine that’ll last long in the follow up books.
I thought that Jane was a hilarious character. She was determined to solve the murder no matter that she didn’t have any detective skills and that she suspected everyone in town. However, her determination to solve the murder is what made Special Agent Conrad Ryan take her off of the suspect list. I also loved Beau as a character. At first I thought he would be a love interest as well but I like him as the best friend he is. All he wants is to help Jane and be her friend again because that’s what he needs in his life. I think their friendship is so special and definitely balances the relationship between Jane and Conrad. I am really looking forward to the next book and I never thought I would say that about a cozy mystery.
