This book was alright, honestly, not my favorite Dragon King novella because it didn’t seem to move the story forward at all. Which was interesting considering how close to the end of the storyline we are getting. Like we now know who Rhi’s king is and I’ll try not to get into that right now. This book was a super quick read. It was shorter than the average 1,001 Dark Nights novella which took me by surprise because I want it to at least be average if not a tad bit longer.
So I did like Annita and Royden but I wasn’t too sure of the purpose of this book. Annita had a destiny to meet a dragon but she didn’t expect it to be a dragon that turned into man that is just crazy talk. But Royden was looking for an item left by his brother only to find a woman who actually believes in dragons. The crazy part about this whole plot to me isn’t that Annita believes in dragons its that Royden doesn’t think that the Others purchased the dragon claw to use against them. Like that was the first thing that went through my mind considering how much power the group has and how long they’ve been at it.
The only piece of this book that I can really see moving the plot forward is that the Kings are stronger with their mates. Which to me means that the ones with mates have more magic and the mates themselves are meant to fight and help the Kings in the war to come. And that book is coming soon. There are 18 books in this series and book 18 is Con’s book in October of this year. So they’ll start moving quickly now. Also, I know I said I wasn’t going to mention it but Con is Rhi’s King and he really needs to do some grovelling in the next couple of books and help Rhi through Balladyn’s death. He has been a real asshole to her and yes I remember all of the hints of Rhi being his mate but I was in denial. Dragon Lost though does not address this at all. It was just something that came up by Donna that I wanted to address.
