I thought that this book was well written and really cute it just wasn’t as funny as I was expecting it to be. Now, I don’t know Tracy Wolff’s writing style but usually Avery Flynn’s romcoms are hilarious. This one had moments of hilarity in it but I wouldn’t consider it a full blown romcom. Though I’m not sure they or their publisher consider it a romcom either. It is more of a women’s fiction/contemporary romance. But so freaking cute. I loved Mallory as a character. The whole book was from her point of view so though I would have liked Nick’s point of view she had a great way of coloring the world. She seemed very real as a person and I think that’s what helped me connect with her even a little bit. She had a lot of events thrown at her in a short period of time and though she didn’t know how she was going to handle any of it she did decide that she was going to put herself first for once and do what she wanted. Contrary to what any one else wanted her to do. And her parents and ex-husband were real pieces of work. Though the mother started to grow on me later in the book when her entire mask shattered.
Again, I enjoyed this book but I didn’t connect with the characters as much as with other contemporary romances. I do wish I had an Aunt Maggie who was so fun though without the hording. I had plenty of aunts who were horders just not with fun things. And the romance between Nick and Mallory was great. It definitely wasn’t insta-love. It wasn’t even insta-like. So that helped a lot with the storyline as well. All in all I would definitely read another book from this duo and of course I’ll always read Avery Flynn. Maybe I’ll even check out Tracy Wolff if I get the chance.
